and raised in Houston, Mike Jones had aspirations to be a basketball player,
but when those dreams didn’t materialize, he chose to pursue a career
in rap. He started Ice Age Entertainment in 2001. While hustling, he ran into
a lot of people who didn’t know who he was.
When giving his CD to DJs, they’d say "Who are you ?" He’d
answer "Mike Jones" and they’d say "Who ?" It happened
so much he took the problem to his grandma, Elsia Mae Jones, who told him to
"Just start saying who ? Mike Jones. Who ? Mike Jones." It worked.
Mike Jones became known as the rapper who kept repeating "Mike Jones. Who ?" throughout his rhymes. He earned a name throughout Houston with his self-distributed Ice Age Vol 1 which caught the ear of SwishaHouse owner DJ Michael Watts, who eventually offered Jones an artist contract. Jones became a regional star by appearing on more than two dozen extremely popular SwishaHouse "screwed-up" mix tapes. He’s also dropped three underground solo sets and guested on the indie compilation The Day Hell Broke Loose 2 as well as the collaborative effort 1st Round Draft Picks with Magno.
MIKE JONES has been featured in top major music magazines including Rolling Stone, XXL, Blender, The Source, and Vibe. He’s also graced the cover of the Arts and Entertainment section of the New York Times and has been reviewed in other top newspapers including Los Angeles Times and the Boston Globe.
In less than two months, the platinum-shipped debut release from Houston-based rising rap star MIKE JONES, "Who Is Mike Jones ?", has been RIAA CERTIFIED GOLD this week. With a sales rate that "Who Is Mike Jones ?" is enjoying, platinum certification is sure to be just around the corner.
