Recording is a very important process in getting the album out. Now I know you might be saying" Of course it is its the first step because you have to have music to put on an album" Well, I am glad to know that everyone knows how important this process is or so most of you say, maybe you didn’t intentionally put out an album where the vocals were poorly recorded after all you are not an enigineer. Maybe you didn’t mean for your album not to be cohesive but you did so many songs and they all sounded really hot to you so they made the album or maybe you didn’t realize that your recordings were very low and that people were going to have to cut their radios up to the very limit to hear you music or that the bass was to strong and the treble was very weak. Thats what we are going to talk about today the process what you need, what should happen. I will talk about how to pick a good studio setup, mastering, and your producer.

PICKING A STUDIO (HOME OR PROFESSIONAL)
Picking the right studio is vital to the recording process, not only does you studio need to make your music sound good it also must make you feel good when doing your music it must have a atmosphere that makes you feel good. First off equipment. What’s being used to record on is important but, it is not as important as people may make it. I know now the latest craze is PROTOOLS and a lot of artist only want to record in a studio that boast a PROTOOLS rig, but this is not a good approach to using a studio because it has protools. Protools is great and it makes your music sound wonderful virtually with out even mixing it but, what if you can’t afford a studio that has Protools or you can’t afford it for your home do not record ? No, you find another alternative. When looking for a studio you should really be concerned with the studios sound atmosphere, engineer, and price. To the general public they can not tell if a song was recorded in PROTOOLS or in Cakewalk 9 the engineer will make the recording sound good remember they used to record with cakewalk 9 can you listen to a radio a tell me the songs recorded on calkwalk and with protools no you can’t sorry. So be more concerned with the engineers skill more than the program they use.

Does he work proficiently with the equipment that they have in the studio do will you have to always wait on him to hurry up or if the juices get to going can he keep up and record and patch on the fly ? check these things out. Check out the atmosphere. Does it make you feel at home. Does it make you feel bored ? Well if so then maybe this isnt where you should record remember this bordom can be heard on a song so if the studio doesn’t make you feel it then maybe this isnt the place despite the fact that they have protools. For all of you home studio guys and girls i know everyone keeps telling you to buy protools but what if you dont have the money 1500 dollars can be expensive for the 002 rack mount even 500 for the mbox so what do you do.Take heed you don’t have to have protools use what you know how to use or with what’s in your budget protools expensive cause with protools you have to have a computer a computer to run protools will cost you probably 1,000 dollars plus protools the 002 rack is another 1,500 dollars, a good mic, is 300 dollars see this can get expensive. What if you walk in the music store and they have a stand alone recorder buy it now you can record straight out the box with money left over now you can get that good microphone and you still have money left that you can spend for mastering. But don’t get me wrong protools is great to have if you can afford it. E-mail me if you would like to see some good studio set ups and the list of equipment used.

YOUR PRODUCER
Your producer is very vital to the recording process he handles the booking of studios arranging bands to play(if that’s what you do) background singers, paying them, and giving the album direction. Your producer is not the guy that said here is a beat go rap on it. Most Producers give you a song already check out, Pharell he is the perfect example also they mix songs and help write they don’t just make beats and leave that is a musician not a producer. Notice how P. Diddy gets a lot of production credit but probably didn’t make a beat because he probably turned some knobs, assem bled the background singers or something a producers job is a wide range of things, So if you have a producer then these are some things that he will do or if you are your own producer then these are things that you should do.

The Recording Process is not a difficult one but it is one that you should not take lightly being as this is really the first step to you being famous. Remember that the studio you use is important and so is the engineer. Your Producer also plays a vital role in your becoming a star. So now go out there and make a hit.
