such as Tapemasters Inc., Envy, and DJ Kool Kid to name a few.
In this exclusive
feature for hiphopgalaxy.com Yara
talks about her career, how it feels to be an artist with sex appeal, and what
projects we should look out for in the near future.
1.Yara how does it feel to be getting such a great response from the fans and general public ?
Great, it feels really good. It’s the best feeling in the world to get recognition for something you put sweat and tears into. It lets you know that people appreciate it and most importantly, it lets you know people are feeling it.
2.You have been receiving a lot of love from DJ’s and radio. How important do you think that is to an artist’s career ?
That’s probably the most important part in any musical career because you might have a banging track but without DJ’s and radio, no one is going to hear it, so it will be hard for you to get anywhere. I got a lot of love for everyone who has believed in me and continue to do so by looking out for me.
3.Alot of people think you have great crossover appeal. What are your thoughts on that ?
Crossover appeal, yeah well I think that definitely puts me in a very good situation. I try to make music that a lot of people will be able to enjoy. If that helps bring that added crossover appeal then that is great. I feel that woman will be able to relate to a lot of my songs because I talk about issues that most woman can relate to. I also like to make club tracks and songs you can dance to. I change it up.
4.How is the creative process for your music ? Do you enjoy coming up with your songs ?
Music is my life, so I love every aspect of it. It’s a real rush when
your just buzzing on a new track you just wrote, your really feeling it and
its fun to me.
I really love it. I usually write my tracks to beats that have already been
put down, I just listen for a while, I hear a melody and I put words to it.
It’s as simple as that, if I’m not feeling a track straight out,
I don’t pursue it.
5.What are some of your favorite tracks you have done so far ?
My Favorite track is definitely ‘What Would You Do’, I had a lot of fun writing that, it’s a completely fictional track where I’m talking about being the other woman to a married man, it was very interesting hearing what people had to say about the things I sang about. It’s a real story telling track. Other favorites are the ‘Baby Remix’ and ‘That’s The Way Love Goes’.
6.Do you look at music more as work or something that you would always be doing regardless ?
Music is a lot of work, but definitely not work as in a regular nine to five, I just cant handle that sort of work, I seriously go crazy. All I can think about is all the time I’m wasting, and all the tracks I could be writing. If I wasn’t pursuing music as a career I would be... actually, I don’t know I’ve never seriously considered that avenue.
7.Tell us a little bit about Blueprint and C.D. King Entertainment, Corp. ?
I’m an artist on Blueprint Records and I love it. C.D. King Entertainment,
Corp. is the business/management side and Chis Dwyer is the CEO of both those
corporations. We get along really good and we see eye to eye on the direction
we take things. It’s good because he supports everything I do and were
really good friends. A lot of the major labels have been showing a lot of interest
so right now we are deciding which situation we are going to go to. I am very
excited.
8.What are some projects that you have coming up ?
I always have something I am working on (laughs). You can keep up with me on the C.D. King Entertainement, Corp. website www.cdkingentertainment.com
9.New artist often have trouble finding an image. Do you feel you would ever have a problem like that ?
No, I think I am unique and that gives me a completely new style and sound. Plus everybody has a completely different personality, you will never find two people that are exactly the same, so if I do it my way and I just play me (cause that’s all I can do) I know I will do fine. My image is just me, that’s what I’m pushing.
10.The general public is attracted to sex appeal. That is something that you definitely have. Do you feel that helps you as an artist ?
The general public ?? (laughs) u mean guys (laughs). I think if you look good it makes things a little easier. I think that if you have a sexy look and people see it, then they become more interested in getting to know who you are as an artist. Also, I think women can appreciate beauty in their sex, I know I do. If I think a woman is beautiful I will give them their props. Like Eve, Its not a sexual thing, I just think WOW she’s amazing. I am thankful that I came out okay.
11.What artists or producers would you like to collab. with ?
I would like to collab. with a lot of artists. A couple of my favorites are
Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, Timbaland, The Neptunes, Dr Dre, 50 Cent, Kanye West,
Slum Village, Outkast, India Arie... The list is way too long and I would
bore you wit it, but a lot of people. My dream would be to do a collab wit my
idol Stevie Wonder.
12.What do you listen to aside from your own music ?
I listen to a lot of what I call ‘best school’ like Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Micheal Jackson, Aretha Franklin. I listen to a lot of Rock too, like The Eagles, Rolling Stones, The Beatles. And then I listen to A LOT of Hip-Hop and RnB, like Alicia Keys, Destiny’s Child, Usher, Fabolous, Nas, Snoop, Dre, 50, Eve.
13.Do you have a favorite song that you always listen to ?
Yes ! Bad Mamma Jamma ! Go Stevie !
14.Where can we go to get more of you and keep up to date on everything you are doing ?
