Vast
Aire & DJ Mighty Mi
Album: The Best Damn Rap Show
Release Date: April 5th, 2005
Label: High Times Records
Review:
Vast Aire, remember him? He’s the titan MC who shocked the world and conquered critics as the leader of Definitive Jux’s landmark upstart crew, Cannibal Ox; their essential 2002 debut, Cold Vein, was a chart-topper in nearly every smart music critic’s year-end poll.
As the Soul Controller of Eastern Conference Records, DJ Mighty Mi has carved
out a place among Hiphop’s top producers, besides his stint as High &
Mighty’s resident DJ and chief producer (Hi & Mighty’s 1999
Rawkus Records debut, Home Field Advantage, played a major role in propelling
Rawkus’ ascension as the “it” Indy Label of its time) Mi has
produced gems for Smut Peddlers, Copywrite, Tame One, Cage, Leak Brothers, Royce
5’9, Ghostface, Kool G Rap, Mobb Deep.. and more.
After quickly following up his solo-debut, Look Mom...No Hands, with two
Martial Arts inspired Way Of The Fist mixtapes, Vast Aire teams up with Hi &
Mighty’s DJ Mighty Mi for their highly anticipated union, The Best Damn Rap
Show, which will be released on April 5th, 2005. Vast and Mi do things for self
on this LP, as Tame One makes the lone cameo on “Fighter Pilots”
and Mighty Mi produces every single track.
