VH1 ?€™s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs, by Wayne [2009-06-18 13:36:40]
very terrible. half these songs are just not classic songs or classic artists. there are so many legends that are cheated with one song on here its ridiculous. if vh1 didnt have all of their reality shows to keep pushin down our throats then maybe they would have spent a little more time with this list.
VH1 ?€™s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs, by John Evan [2009-06-15 23:04:49]
VH1 blew it. No consistency. Is the list most influential ? best selling ? best lyrically ? They tried way too hard to be politically correct and give each artist some love and in the process ruined the list. If Biggie, Jay-z, Nas Common, and Tupac each have only 1 song, then the list is not the 100 greatest songs. It’s ok to have an artist get more than one hit on the list. They all have songs, that like the others on this list, that are timeless and will be played and have been played decades later. I’m fine with main stream, dance/r&b like hip hop being on the list, just not these particular songs. There are way too many good, popular, trendy, and influential songs missing to have this be called the 100 greatest.

VH1 ?€™s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs, by Sherz [2009-02-07 15:00:32]
Damn ! This is one of the most controversial list ever created ! Personally, this list is not up to standard in terms of hip-hop. When this list was created, whoever had penned it obviously knew VERY little on hip hop and it’s grounding of it. Many songs selected on this list do not belong there at all, i.e : Mase, Cam’ron, 50 CENT ?? I ask, What is hip hop about "In Da Club ?????" What most of this list is based on is clearly on POP HIP HOP ! Someone need to school these people who did this on THE MEANING OF HIP HOP ! Hip hop is deeper than your "radio ears," I am disgusted that "Common’s - I Used To Love H.E.R" has been ignorantly put up at #69 ! That is THE GREATEST HIP HOP SONG OF ALL TIME, PERIOD !! You won’t get another song deeper in the roots than that joint right there. He clearly defined how Hip Hop was at the time and how it would turn out today.
VH1 ?€™s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs, by patty [2009-01-18 22:12:21]
How the hell is Tupac only #15 and why is Mase even on this list. Why is Puffy a greater number than the Queen, was somebody drunk when they made this ? This is too ridiculous to be considered legit.

VH1 ?€™s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs, by olivia [2009-01-07 17:30:16]
This list is actually really good. Just because some people don’t like the song doesn’t mean it’s not good.

Ya’ll need to stop gettin’ on this list. It’s decent. You can’t say that these songs were not hot. Most, if not all of thee songs are songs that still, even decades later get everybody up at a party, club, etc. And they can’t put all of every hip-hop star’s top songs on the list. They only had 100 spots ya’ll ! These are the songs that everybody knows so they made the list...

I was not surprised because it is VH1, but every real hip hop fan will reverse the list and only have probably 20 songs tops out of that list. T.R.O.Y. should have been in 20’s, definatly, just one song by Nas and it was 48, Nas made a bigger impact on the hip hop culture than that. Notorious B.I.G.,Pac,Jay-Z,Rakim.... should have made the list with more than 1 song each. Watching the last hour with hopes to see Mass Appeal by Gangstarr, Shook Ones by Mobb Deep, Ain’t No Half Steppin’ and so on made my stomach feeling funny and after not seeing such classics on the list killed me, but it is VH1. At least they had a decent "40 Greatest Metal Songs", unfurtunatly not Hip Hop. My list out of this list : 10.I Used to Love H.E.R. 9.My Philosophy 8.Check the Rhime 7.C.R.E.A.M. 6.One Love 5.T.R.O.Y. 4.Children’s Story 3.PAid In Full 2.Rapper’s Delight 1.The Message
AND My Personal LIST : 10.Last Dayz by Onyx 9.Can I Live by Jay-Z 8.Halftime by Nas 7.New York State of Mind pt.2 by Nas 6.Come Clean by Jeru the Damaja 5.Step Into a World by KRS-One 4.Shook Ones by Mobb Deep 3.Ain’t No Half Steppin by BDK 2.Mass Appeal by Gangstarr 1.New York State of Mind by Nas

I actually don’t have a problem with the top 4 and only a few of the rest, but to only have ’I Get Around’ as Tupacs best song to be entered as one of the top 100 is unbelievable. I’m scared of the people judging Hip Hop now !!!!!!!!!! It is clearly obvious 2 me that if they ranked a Kool Moe Dee song before LL, then the voters dont know hip hop. LL ended Kool’s career from old beef but kool got a higher ranking song. It appears to me that these people are talking in a circle of 5 people that grew up together in the same neighbor’hood’, on the same street, next door to each other, from kindergarten thru college, getting advise on what music to listen from the one person in the circle that they thawt was the cool one. Bad List.
VH1 ?€™s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs, by MR G [2008-10-06 18:26:42]
If VH1 ?€™s goal was to start controversy, they succeeded with this list ?€ ?make it terrible and people will watch and provide emotional comments. But here are some points to consider ?€ ?
1.Your list missed the mark with a regional perspective. For example, East Coast is not happy with which songs you put on there to represent them or the order you placed songs in. West and south is not happy. 2. Your list missed the mark by generation. Old school fans are not happy, the middle 90 guys are not happy, or new generation is definitely not happy. 3. You missed the mark with the fans of artist. Tupac fans are not happy with quantity or the the song you picked. How can we call him the best (or top 3) and only have one song on list at #14. NAS fans are not happy, Eminem, BIG, RAKIM, etc I think you really screwed up in this area VH1. At the very minimum, pick the top songs of the artist, so that we can argue about rather NAS, BIG, JZ, TUPAC, etc should be 1, 2, 3 etc. I am a TUPAC fan but please ?€ ?Let ?€™s Get Around doesn ?€™t even crack my top ten for him. 4. You missed the mark with trying to include some of everybody. Arrested development song TENNESSE ?€ ?come on, if you had left that off the list, the 4 people in America who thought it should have made list would have been crushed by the million of other fans.
Recommendations : 1. Create top list of regional songs. i.e. Top west coast, top east coast, south, Midwest etc. Create top songs of each artist. 2. Create top list by era. i.e. Top 80s, Top 90s, Top 2000s 3. Define your criteria ?€ ? Made #1, held #1 for so many weeks, sold so many records, no one hit wonders ?€ ?whatever you want. At least people can understand why a certain record didn ?€™t make a list. 4. Then compare all the lists to come up the top 100 songs.
Dont ?€™s : 1. Do not include anybody on your decision board who is heavily bias. I mean, the south is having their turn right now, but you have bias people who will discount them altogether because their opion, south music is garbage. Can ?€™t have people like that on your board. 2. Do not have those emotional people with their favorite songs. I mean, Ever So Clear by Bushwick Bill one of my all time favorites but that doesn ?€™t mean it should be in VH1s top 100. 3. You need some universal people like me. I have been listening to Hip Hop/RAP since early 80s. I grew up in NY and Tennessee so I know both East and South. While in South, we took to West Coast, so I appreciate that music too. You need more universal people like me who can have favorite songs ?€ ?but appreciate others.
To the fans ?€ ?.make your own list. For one thing, you will find out it is not so easy to make up your own mind. Second, you will be much happier then looking at a list by VH1.

okay looking @ the list, these R the songs which had NO business whatsoever being on this list....
Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz ft/ Ying Yang Twins : Get Low
N.E.R.D. ft. Lee Harvey and Vida : Lapdance
Cam ?€™ron : Oh Boy
PM Dawn : Set Adrift On Memory Bliss
Mase : Feel So Good
Lil ?€™ Wayne : Tha Block Is Hot
Nelly : Hot In Herre
VH1 ?€™s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs, by Dre Guevara [2008-10-06 17:05:13]
The list was pretty much dealing with "popular" Hip Hop songs, I agree that Lil’ Wayne, Nelly & most of the other commercialized crap on that list should have been omitted, but they hit the nail on the head with the #1 song though, hate it or love it. all I wanna know is where was "White Lines" ?

What a terrible list. Nas, Pac, B.I.G., Dre. Dre should’ve been on this list a minimum of 3 times each. Where’s NY State of Mind, Everyday Struggle, Pac’s Keep ya head up and numberous others shoulda been on it. What a bogus list. U cant trust a channel thats primarily made for white people.

I seriously don’t get why songs like get low and hot in here are on that list. I know they rocked the clubs, but they aren’t even close to being in the top 100 list. So many amazing songs left out so they could put ridiculous songs like that on the list.
VH1 ?€™s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs, by [2008-10-05 02:28:14]
This is just a ridiculous list. There are so many songs that should be on here, and so many that should not. I agree with many of the comments below. Songs like Shook Ones, Passing Me By, 93 Til Infinity, Supa Star (Group Home), and Come Clean (Jeru), just to name a few, should definitely be on there.

What about : Souls of Mischief, Luniz, Pharcyde, E-40, Lords of the Underground, Redman, Leaders of the New School, K-Solo, Beatnuts, 45 King, D-Nice, Main Source, Any other Jungle Brothers & Roots songs ! Audio Two, Special Ed, Keith Murray, Boogie Monsters, Gangstarr, Too $hort.
Doug E. Fresh & the Get Fresh Crew for "The Show" is probably the only group that should have had 2 songs on the list ! And Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. How the hell you leave Newcleus - "Jam on it" off the list ???? Pete & C.L. Smooth T.R.O.Y @ #89 ? .........Bullshit !

This List Is B.S. They Played Pac,Nas & wu-tang Big Time. I think ll cool J is the only 1 on this list twice.(witch is ok but more than pac or b.i.g ?)nah ! You can tell they did this list only on songs that had videos to. I thought "through the wire" was a better kanye song than "gold digger" but hey. & it wouldnt of been that low in the list ! o & theirs the Hip Hop Classic "get low" lol I dont care if its 99, that should of been another nas song or something ! And I Can’t Believe Eve,Nelly,Cam & a couple otherz made this list. Horrible Coming From a True Hip-Hop Head

This list sucks ! Pac is not even in the top 10. Lil’ Wayne, Luda, Nelly, Missy, Lil’ Jon, Cam’Ron & T.I. [I love him but c’mon] should not be on this list. 50 Cent ? Please. Eminem had way better songs than "Stan", and "Gold Digger" is WAYYYYYYYY too high on this list ! It just doesn’t belong. I disagree with the songs they chose for Pac, Biggie, Nas & LL. This was such a disappointment. I was half-expecting Soulja Boy to make number one, that’s how bad this list is.

VHnone. This is a pretty lame countdown. No KRS-One. I can’t believe that Nelly is at 36, with "hot in herre". There is no Too Short, and Busta Rhymes isn’t even in the top 25. I don’t care if SugerHill Gang brought hip-hop mainstream, if Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff are in the 90’s so should SHG. Im from the westcoast, but Snoop Dogg’s "Gin and Juice" is above Jay-z. I figured ppl from NY put this thing together. WOW. What happened.
P.S. Hip Hop, I hope you feel better soon.

I want to know, who did you guys get to vote on these songs ? What demographic did you guys focus on ? Are you kidding me ? Get ur freak on in the top 20 ? Are you kidding me, The Show no.51 ? You pick Push It as a song for Salt-n-Pepa. What happened to The Bridge by MC Shan or The Bridge is over by KRS-One. Eric B for President by Rakim. Ain’t no half steppin by Big Daddy Kane. Dead Presidents by Jay Z. I could go on if you want. You guys are killing me with this list. I ask again, who voted for this crap ? This list is bull. Y’all need to have some real Hip Hop heads vote on this and then get a concensus to narrow down to the most voted on 100 songs. I don’t know who you guys got to do this but fire them dudes, for real.

Eminem’s biggest moment was 8 Mile, and the main song used was Shook Ones...where’s that ? Foxy got I’ll Be, but where’s Ain’t No Ni%%@ ? Dear Mama ? Ain’t Hard To Tell ? Streets Is Watching ? Top Billin’ ? Raw ? 357 by Cam’Ron ? Get Down ? The DOC ? Dana Dane ? Onyx ? No solo Scarface songs ??
Ok, MY top 15, no particular order... Nas, Jay Z, LL Cool J, Run DMC, Eric B & Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, BDP, PE, 2Pac, Biggie, Kool G Rap, Snoop, NWA, Ice Cube, Scarface..

Not happy. Anything with Puff Daddy should be removed ASAP !! Pac, NAS and the Big Hommie are under represented just to name a few. Most of the "trendy-pop" songs need to be replaced so that we get the true essence of "Hip-Hop". I know the creators want to represent all facets of the genre but that should not be done at the expense of those more deserving songs. This is so surprising because VH1 generally does so well with Hip-Hop Honors...what happened here ? Who’s responsible, the people deserve answers.

Man, how could you not have Friends by Whodini. Also, One More Chance by Biggie. Not to mention, Eminem- Stan ? He has had some better songs. I would take 8 Mile over Stan (regardless of the message of Stan). Run DMC- Walk This Way. If you are talking about some real hip-hop, My Adidas was by far truer to the game or even give me It’s Like That. One Mic by NAS. I am not hating on The Fugees but Ready or Not should have been on the list and not Killing Me Softly. Man, I could go on and on. And, I am not hating on Public Enemy they definitely deserve to be in the top ten, but not number one.

VH1 SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.A LIST LIKE THIS IS WHY HIP HOP IS DEAD.YOU GUYS HAVE NO CLUE ON WHAT HIP HOP IS ABOUT.1st-Nas SHOULD BE IN THE TOP 10 WITH-THE WORLD IS YOURS OR NY STATE OF MIND.2nd-WHY IS SLICK RICK & BIG DADDY KANE IN THE HALFWAY PART OF THE LIST.IF IT WASN’T FOR THEM,THERE WOULD BE NO JAY-Z OR NAS WHO ARE AT THE FOREFRONT OF HIP HOP TODAY.3rd-WHY ISN’T KOOL G RAP ON THIS LIST-HE HAD ROAD TO RICHES,ILL STREET BLUES & MONEY IN THE BANK (ALL HIP HOP CLASSICS)I’M NOT DISSIN CAM,NELLY,T.I OR LUDA BUT THEIR SONGS AREN’T CLASSIC.THOSE WERE JUST HIT SONGS OF THE RADIO.ALL THIS LIST IS JUST A BUNCH OF HIT SINGLES THAT GOT ALOT OF RADIO SPINS.THERE ARE SO MANY SONGS ON HERE THAT ARE NOT CLASSIC, IT’S JUST PREPOSTEROUS ! Ny State of mind, the world is your, if i ruled the world, one mic, i gave you power, rewind, ether, ghetto prisoners, hate me now, money is my b*tch, halftime, the list is very long...at least 30 Nas songs should’ve been here before most of these shits !!!as a matter of fact Nas and Jayz can put up their own 100 best songs each and have a better lineup then that...very disapointing that anyone would call themself a hip hop expert and put up this list of bullcrap...only 30 songs really deserve to be on that list

WTF !!!! 50cent at spot 18 god... damn.... this is so stupid... its a joke.. btw to joeblowtrees chamillionair is actually a pretty good rapper. have you heard any mixtape messiahs ? shit is crazy ! cham and lupe are probably (aside from nas and ect.) the best original rappers making music out there.
