Trick Daddy
Album : Thug Matrimony :
Married to the Streets

Release Date : Oct 26, 2004

Label : Atlantic

Review :

Before Pitbull or Jacki-O got picked up on the rap radar, the challenge for Floridian MCs was to avoid sounding like a crunk cliché or a 2 Live Crew derivative. Half the excitement of picking up a Trick Daddy disc is that you have no idea what to expect. Hyper-political numbers like "Amerika" or nonsensical party fluff like "Shut Up" ? This eclecticism continues unabated as Trick goes all Bad Brains, rocking out with the aid of an Ozzy Osbourne sample on mosh-friendly "Let’s Go." Trick still "loves the kids" apparently, smartly re-tooling a timeless MC Lyte’s "Self Destruction" verse and imploring the youth to aim high and stay dry on "These Are the Daze." On the other hand, when most of your discs carry the label "thug" in the title, there’s only so much you can do to suppress your compulsion to talk trash ; here, he even contrasts women with fruits.
