Customer Review :
They’ve long been hip-hop’s best band, for whatever that’s worth, and in their
amazing live shows they’ve shown an ability to pay homage to the past and look
to the future—all while living firmly in the now. But on Things Fall Apart,
the Roots finally pull their promise and ability together, and the world’s started
to pay attention.
With "Things Fall Apart", The Roots have silenced any doubters and
have brought people the real hip hop we’ve been searching for. "Do You
Want More ?" and "Illadelph Halflife" are both hip hop classics
and I will have people arguing with me for days about what the best Roots CD
is. In my opinion, this is the best Roots album to date. This is hip hop at
it’s finest. Black Thought is one of the best MCs in hip hop today. (I can’t
wait for his solo CD) and with The Roots being a "hip hop band" it
just makes everything flow in place.
One reason why I like this CD a little
better than others is because Malik B and Dice Raw get more mic time. As I said,
Black Thought is one of the best MCs, but it’s almost like A Tribe Called Quest
with Q Tip and Phife. Q Tip on the 1st CD got the mic time and Phife was on
about two songs. On later Tribe CDs this eventually balanced out. On "Things
Fall Apart", Malik B and Dice Raw get to give quality performances around
Black Thought, which makes for a better all around CD. The Roots production
is at its finest as well.
The best songs on this CD in my opinion are my jam,
"The Next Movement", "Adrenaline" w/Beanie Sigel, "Dynamite !",
"You Got Me" w/Erykah Badu & Eve, and "Don’t See Us".
You should also hear the bonus track on the end of the CD. To anyone that likes
real, down to earth, Rawkus Records hip hop here you go. You won’t be disappointed.
