T.I. Pleads Guilty

T.I. pleaded guilty to several federal weapons charges this afternoon (March 27) as part of a plea deal that could see him serving a year in prison.

If U.S District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. signs off on the plea bargain, T.I., real name Clifford Harris, could be ordered to serve 1,500 hours of community service and 12 months in prison when he is sentenced later this year.

As part of the plea agreement Harris would serve the community by talking to youth groups across the United States about the problems with guns, gangs and drugs.

The rapper’s prison time could be increased or reduced depending on his fulfillment of the terms of is deal and good behaviour.

Harris was arrested in October a few hours before he was set to headline the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta. He was charged with possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers, as well as possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

T.I. is facing a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count. He originally pleaded not guilty and has been under house arrest since his release on $3 million bond on October 26.
