Skillz The World Needs More Skillz

Venerable Richmond, Virginia rapper Skillz will release his new album, The World Needs More Skillz (Big Kidz Entertainment /Entertainment One Music), on October 25th, 2010.

The World Needs More Skillz, a musically-rich work that maintains Skillz’ originalist style while breaking new sonic ground, is his follow-up to 2008’ The Million Dollar Backpack, which received critical acclaim throughout the hip hop world. Two singles have already shipped to radio: “Call My Crazy,” features Raheem DeVaughn and “Regular Guy.”

Skillz is known for his ghostwriting and freestyle talents, and his year-end “Rap Up” songs. His “Rap Up” tracks, a holiday tradition for eight years, shows Skillz creating hip hop tracks summing up the prior year, as only Skillz can do.

Skillz has been working nonstop on new songs, narrowing down some 200 tracks for The World Needs More Skillz.. “I don’t cover any of the same topics as before,” he says. “I’m working with producers who are experimenting with new techniques. It’s just a refreshing sound.” Lead single “Call Me Crazy,” seeks to demonstrate that chivalry is not dead, while the Bilal collaboration “Wants and Needs,” breaks down the struggle between our necessities and our desires. Skillz’s object was to refine his style into something even more musical and compelling. “When I rap, I want it to sound like someone is playing another instrument,” he says.
