Shaun Scales, the north side Chicago native is preparing to raise the bar with the October 4th release of his debut mixtape Yours Truly. This solo effort is the realization of demonstrated discipline and the foundation of poetry enhancing his musical aspirations. Raised by his grandmother on soul music, Shaun is inspired by the likes of Marvin Gaye, Isley Brothers, and other pillars of music, causing a depth of understanding in production and honing a trained ear for his own music interpretation.

Shaun Scales began crafting his poetry at a young age through journaling and entering poetry contests at the encouraging of a teacher in seventh grade. Growing up amongst a family of musicians, the opportunity to freestyle and try his hand at rap came when he began writing to the beats of his Aunt and Uncle who were at the time a rap duo. Surprised at the tenacity of young Shaun, he was urged to continue writing.

Following the likes of Nas, Tupac, Biggie and others, he incorporated those stylings into his own theatrics, detailing his life’s experiences and finding his voice in the process of developing his lyrical stature. As a musician, Shaun has channeled the obstacles in his life, namely growing up without his father, into motivation and tales of truth to perfect his legend. “I don’t see myself buckling. I learned everything from women. I understand women and growing up, a lot of my perceptions are of what women think.” For this young star, the design of music structure is all about self expression and the method of operation for giving his voice to the masses.

“I have a voice that people should hear. A lot of my songs are stories. Shaun Scales is an artist that people want to hang out with. I’m the next door neighbor.” Yours Truly is the manifesto of an artist that has stepped out on his own to complete a destiny of artistry. Aside from being musically inclined, Shaun is a “beast in the kitchen” giving the same comfort and charming creativity to his dishes as he does the tracks that accompany Yours Truly. With subject matter touching on everything from street justice to fashion, to the overall love for music, there is no comparing Shaun’s flow and lyrical skill.

Whether harmonizing or creating the uber catchy hook, Shaun has carved his own niche and high level of expertise in his lane. While the MC is from Chicago and reps his city to the fullest, the goal is to be a household name, a brand, a combination of the forces in hip-hop, culminating in the most diverse and solid product possible; Your Truly. “When people hear me, I don’t want them to say ‘that dude is from Chicago.’ When you think of Shaun Scales, I want you to think of the music.

Beginning with a freestyle over a dope beat, the goal is to naturally derive emotion from the listener while giving a glimpse into his life and thoughts. The premise behind Your Truly is further expansion of this process. “It’s a journal. My precious thoughts and the things I want to say that I don’t tell anybody and now I’m giving it to you. It’s me.

It’s my own stamp of approval. I signed off on it as a product.” Shaun Scales, the artist is motivated, skilled and talented in the storytelling of life.
