Remy Ma has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the shooting of a woman outside a Manhattan nightclub.

The sentence was handed down to 26-year-old Remy Smith at the Manhattan Criminal Court yesterday (May 13) for charges of assault, weapon possession and attempted coercion stemming from the shooting of Makeda Barnes-Joseph in July 2007. Smith is said to have become enraged when $3000 went missing from her purse when the pair left a New York nightclub.

In related news, Smith’s planned wedding at Rikers Island to rapper Papoose was postponed on Monday (May 12) after correction officers claimed Papoose tried to sneak a handcuff key into the prison.
