Q-Tip Biography  :

Legendary hip hop innovator Q-Tip’s arrival at Universal/Motown Records is just the latest chapter in one of the most storied careers in urban music. His highly anticipated Universal Motown debut album, the aptly titled Live At The Renaissance, is a versatile portrayal of a pivotal, multi-talented artist at the top of his game.

The disc, which features guest appearances by such rap compatriots as Andre 3000 from Outkast, Pharoh Munch, Raphael Saadiq (formerly of Tony ! Toni ! Tone !), and Consequence, also renders production offerings from The Neptunes and Q-Tip himself.

Q-Tip first rose to prominence in 1988 as one of the founders of the trailblazing hip hop group, A Tribe Called Quest, whose cerebral wordplay, socially conscious themes, and intricate fusion of jazz and other genre-bending influences changed hip hop’s lexicon forever. The group’s six-album legacy includes their groundbreaking1990 debut on Jive Records, People’s Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm, as well as their follow-up classic Low End Theory in 1991. Q-Tip also appeared with kindred hip hop pioneers De La Soul on their seminal 3 Feet High And Rising album, becoming a key contributor to their Native Tongues Collective, cementing his rep as one of music’s most indispensable visionaries.

A Tribe Called Quest disbanded in 1998, with Q-Tip launching his solo career with the critically acclaimed Amplified soon after. Revered by peers in and outside of hip hop’s tremendous orbit, Q-Tip’s long list of collaborations include everyone from Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes to Korn and Janet Jackson. Most recently Q-Tip was signed to Arista Records. The hip hop impresario also recently appeared on REM’s latest album, Around The Sun, as well as stepping into the acting arena with cameos on the acclaimed comedy hit, The Dave Chappelle Show, and Spike Lee’s 2004 movie, She Hate Me. Q-Tip returned to the live concert circuit in the summer of 2005, appearing with Common, Cypress Hill and others on the Miller Genuine Draft ‘Flavor 2 Savor’ Concert Series.
