Pharrell Williams has added R&B singer Robin Thicke to the roster of his Star Trak imprint. The move was quietly made last year and now Thicke is set to release his sophomore album, The Evolution Of Robin Thicke, in early 2006. Thicke said, "My initial reaction with Pharrell was obviously humility, because he’s the best in the business in my opinion. Pharrell asked (Interscope head Jimmy Iovine, ’What are you doing with Robin Thicke ?’, and (Iovine) said ’You, you should take him.’ So next thing you know, we’re in the studio working on ’Wanna Love U Girl.’"
"Wanna Love U Girl" is the lead single from the project. Thicke explained how the song came together. He said, "(Pharrell) starting writing it, then we ended up writing it together. From hearing my album, what he wanted to do with the single was try to emulate what the whole album talks about, which is love, finding a good woman, the ups-and-downs of life and relationships. That’s what the song is about ; it’s pretty simple. We wanted to make a song that spoke for the whole album, and that’s where the topic came from."
Thicke is the son of 80’s sitcom star Alan Thicke.
In related news, Pharrell Williams will release his solo debut, In My Mind, on November 15th. The first single from the project is "Can I Have It Like That" featuring Gwen Stefani.
In My Mind also features Jay-Z, Daddy Yankee, Slim Thug, and Vanessa Marquez.
