Pete Philly & Perquisite
Album : Mindstate
Release date : May 9, 2006
Label : Anti

Straight out of the multicultural melting pot that is Amsterdam, two hip-hop prodigies have come together to create this soulful, ambitious, thought provoking album. Hip-hop, soul, 60’s psychedelia, and even classical music gently collide and collaborate in a breathtaking way. "Perquisite" drops his groovy beats with one hand and plays cello with the other, in combination with MC/vocalist Pete Philly’s charmingly honest tales, creating a concept album bursting with passion. Each song represents a different state of mind focusing on particular moods or emotions, like laziness, gratitude, hope, and motivation.

Soulful, ambitious, thought provoking and brimming with musicality, ’Mindstate’ is the fruit of 18 months worth of labour by MC Pete Philly and producer Perquisite, two of The Netherlands’ most talented hip-hop ingénues.

Absolute niceness, something new and refreshing !

All in all, "Mindstate" is jazz-rap at it’s finest.
If skills actually sold the music, Pete Philly & Perquisite would be one of the most successful commercial group in hip hop. But since Clear Channel runs the industry, I guess They’ll have to settle for being one of the most critically acclaimed group in hip-hop.
Not that I’m complaining. Anybody who knows good hip-hop, knows that all the good stuff is underground.
