People Under the Stairs Highlighter
People Under the Stairs
Album : Highlighter
October 11, 2011
If there was any doubt that the People Under the Stairs were starting evolve at a rapid pace since their game changing album Stepfather, there is no longer. This album is far from just the next step in the story line of the most successful independent hip hop act of all time, it is a running leap. Over the course of 8 albums, we have see PUTS mature from two teenagers making beats with a couple turntables and an MPC, to full blown musicians. This album not only explores new and unheard of areas of artistry and musicianship from Portugal and Turner, but also for hip hop as an art form, and does so without abandoning the key principles that made people grow to love them. Thes One also has also done a great deal of work to make Highlighter one of, if not the first album ever to be digitally released in it’s original studio quality of 24-bit HD-AAC. This album is the first release of their own independent venture Piecelock70, and could be considered one of the most defining moments in the groups 14 year history. In the face of this reality, The P has responded with an album that is as funky as it is brilliant. Musical Dope in it’s finest form.
