The son of a drill sergeant turned pastor, and a product of the rugged College Park streets of Atlanta, you might say that Pastor Troy is the living breathing embodiment of good and evil combined into one dangerous human being. He is a master at balancing the two worlds he is from, juxtaposing them against one another in raps that not only tear the clubs down into the ground, but lyrics that speak to the soul of the streets with a preacher’s captivating honesty.
This is what makes him one of the most powerful yet overlooked MCs in the southern rap game. Troy is a driven artist who is afraid of no one. In 2001, as an unsigned artist with much to prove, he engaged in a long, highly publicized feud with the biggest-selling and most respected southern rapper at the time, Master P, which in turn attracted the attention of Universal Records to sign the hungry MC.
His huge reputation in the south has gotten him the opportunity to work closely with super-producers Timbaland, Lil Jon and Jazze Pha. Troy’s first major-label album Face Off debuted in 2001 at #7 on the Billboard Rap Charts, followed up by Universal Soldier in 2002 which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Rap Charts. The hit Timbaland-produced single Are We Cuttin’, was so successful that it was used as the lead single from the soundtrack to the blockbuster film XXX starring Vin Diesel in 2002. With his April 18th, 2006 release Money and Power, Pastor Troy is set to preach his hip-hop gospel all over and pick up right where he left off.
