Ol’Dirty Bastard album coming soon
The album that the late Ol’Dirty Bastard, whose real name was Russell Jones, was working on at the time of his death will finally be released on November 7th through the Dame Dash Music Group. ODB signed with Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam in 2003 following his release from prison and suffering a sudden heart attack after taking large amounts of cocaine and Tramadol (a prescription painkiller) on 13 November 2004. The rapper collapsed at Wu-Tang’s 36 Records recording studio in Manhattan, New York. The exact cause of death was not identified until a post mortem was performed some time later.
"A Son Unique" features guest appearances from Rza, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Method Man, Macy Gray, Missy Elliott, N.O.R.E., Pharrell Williams, Joe Budden and M.O.P.’s Fame.
Prior to the announcement of the new release date, RZA shared his frustration with the delay. He said : "But I know I put a lot of work on the album. I haven’t been paid for it, you know what I mean ? No big deal though ’cause, you know, I did it regardless."
The producer added : "I just hope they get their act together and release that record because his family is now dependent on the release of that record, you know what I mean ?"
ODB battled drug addiction through out his career and served two years in prison for a drug conviction. After his 2003 release from prison, the rapper maintained an outwardly drug-free lifestyle and was forced to regularly submit to drug testing as a condition of his parole.
ODB collapsed and died on November 13th, 2004 in the Wu-Tang Clan’s Manhattan recording studio just days before his 36th birthday. The rapper had complained of chest pains before collapsing.
The New York Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that the rapper died from a drug overdose caused by a fatal mixture of cocaine and the prescription drug Tramadol, which is a synthetic opiate that is usually used to treat severe joint pain or cancer.
