Nas Concert : is hip hop really dead ?
By Los HuStLeS

After closing out a big year by signing to Def Jam, dropping an album and stirring the emotions of sensitive rappers while raising questions about the state of Hip Hop, Nas kicked off the new year by tearing down the house in his hometown at the Hard Rock Cafe.

The self proclaimed Godson took the stage and performed hits from his latest album, Hip Hop Is Dead. Except, There was no Jigga verse on “Black Republican” and no adlibs from Mr. Late registration on “Still Dreaming”. Instead he brought out Ill will signee Tre Williams to capture the audience on the soulful “Let There Be Light” and songstress Chrissette Michelle to join him on “Can’t Forget About You”.

Nas ripped through a list of hits and classics such as, “NY State of mind”, “If I ruled the world”, “Street dreams” and “Nas is like”. He even took it back as far as “Live at the BBQ” without ever missing a beat.

After taking the crowd to the Stillmatic era by performing “You The Man” and “Stillmatic”, off of his successful CD, Esco left the crowd chanting for “Ether” only to receive chuckles from the rapper and his longtime DJ/producer L.E.S.

Not holding anything back, the Queens Bridge MC dropped to his knees for what was a stellar performance of “One Mic”, acting out his story telling verses as he let the crowd finish his rhymes.

With no famous guest appearances, Mr. Contradiction once again lives up to his name by giving us at least one reason why Hip-Hop is not dead.
