Ludacris
Album : Red Light District
Release Date : Dec 7, 2004
Label : Def Jam
Get Back, the first single, recaptures the intensity of Ludacris’ past hit Move Bitch, with kinetic beat work courtesy of KLC of the Medicine Men. Lil Jon contributes moody electric guitars on the alcohol and weed ode Too Much, while Timbaland blesses Luda with tribal percussion and avant-garde bounce on Potion.
New producer Voodoo nearly steals the show with his haunting Teena Marie sampling on Child of the Night, where Ludacris engages in candid self reflection, spitting, I admit to being trumped by too many distractions, and I’ve been forced to pay for my childish actions.
DJ Green Lantern turns the Austin Powers theme music into a rowdy soundtrack for Ludacris to fire off cocky boasts on Number One Spot, with Luda even throwing a swift jab at rival Bill O’Reilly.

I’ve never been so entertained by a skit in my life (No. 9). I fell out laughing during that and the skit at the end of "Pimpin’ all over the world" with the "Beat It phenomenon." Ludacris has the right touch of humor, hardcore, and dance that I love in an artist. I adore any artist that is versatile enough to offer me all three and this is it. I can listen to this cd all the way through without skipping a song, although "Intro" (he is the only artist I listen to whose first song is the BEST song), "Number One Spot", "Get Back", and the beatboxing and Nas’ part on "Virgo". I wasn’t feeling Doug E. Fresh’s part of the song, but it’s all good cause I could hear that man beatbox all day. His song with DJ Quik was weak (then again, so are most West Coast rappers. Same topic all the time : pimping, hoes, weed, beer, parties).
By the way, Ludacris, please put intelligent people on your album. Trick Daddy said slavery was a few decades ago, umm....TRY A FEW CENTURIES AGO ! Force that man to read a book before he rhymes on somebody’s album. I wish Ludacris’ verse on Young Buck’s cd was on here because that was off the chain but then again...this cd was off the chain regardless.
Ironically, right next to T.I., Ludacris is my Number One favorite hip hop artist.

After releasing one of most successful records word of mouf, much hype was given to chicken and beer, which fell flat due to the pressure of doing better than word of mouf. One year after saying you are what you eat, were introduced to another helping of ludacris titled the red light district, a definite improvement after his 3rd solo effort. With his catchy single get back, this album has more hits than C&B, with tracks like number one spot, put your money with DMX, child of the night with nate dogg, and virgo with nas and doug e. fresh. I just wished he would stop with tracks like blueberry yum yum, but hey no album is perfect. Definite buy for 2004
