Though she stands just under 5 feet tall, the phenomenon known as Lil’ Kim possesses a presence and persona that looms well beyond her tiny frame....
A native of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, Lil Kim was raised by her parents until they split up when she was nine years old. Following their separation, she lived with her father, yet he threw her out of the house when she was a teenager. As a teen, she lived with her friends and, occasionally, on the streets.

Eventually, she and her rhyming skills came to the attention of Notorious BIG, who helped her cultivate her career. Smalls helped her become a member of Junior M.A.F.I.A., and Lil’ Kim was a key part of the group’s hit debut single, "Player’s Anthem." After making her presence known on Junior M.A.F.I.A.’s debut album ”Conspiracy” Lil Kim launched a solo career in 1996 with the release of her first Album : “Hard Core” released on Undeas / Big Beat Records. This album was produced by Christopher "B.I.G." Wallace and Sean “Puffy” Combs, and was a huge success with platinum sales.
"lil Kim’s a true artist," said Combs of Kim in Vibe. "She’s a perfectionist."

Lil Kim’s marketing campaign for the album was quite provocative — she was dressed in a skimpy bikini and furs in the advertisements, as well as the album covers — but instead of resulting in a backlash, the album became a hit, debuting at number 11 on the pop charts. The first single from the album, "No Time," a duet with Sean "Puffy" Combs, became a number one rap single.
The long-awaited Notorious K.I.M. followed in 2000. "I know it’s been a long time since my last album, but Big’s death has affected me in more ways than one," writes Kim in her album notes, by way of a message to her fans.

With this second Album, the Queen Bee maintains her thug-ette aesthetic. Her beats (provided by an assortment of dance-floor-friendly producers) may be slick, but the rhymes are rough, rugged, and raw. Notorious KIM builds on the foundation created by her cheeky debut, Hard Core, with more freakiness than Penthouse’s letters page. Lil kim also gets macho male rappers on their knees with "Suck My D**k," in which she turns the sexual tables on males like those from N.W.A.

Everyone’s favorite hardcore female rapper returns with her hottest and hardest effort to date. Lil Kim third and latest release, La Bella Mafia, in 2003 is a refreshingly uncommercial album that demonstrates Kim’s hard-earned mic skills. Inspired by the 1997 film, Bella Mafia, in which mafia widows take over their husbands’ business and avenge their deaths, the album reflects a major turning point in lil Kim’s career.
