Kurupt
Album: Down And Dirty
Release Date: 3/23/2010
review:
In 1992 when fans popped in their Dr. Dre "The Chronic" CDs they were
introducted to a Philadelphia born but Los Angeles raised lyrical genius who
has captured the ears and diehard loyalty of hip hop fans across the world.
There is only one Kurupt. He has proven over the last two decades to be not
only a survivor but undeniably one of the most important hip hop artists of
our time. Kurupt keeps the underground faithful with his East Coast vocabulary
over Death Row’s West Coast authentic drive and arrives at a signature sound.
After appearing on such classic albums as "Murder Was The Case" Soundtrack,
"Doggystyle", "All Eyez On Me", and his group effort "Dogg
Food" with his long time co-conspirator Daz Dillinger, Kurupt set a high
bar for West Coast verbal assassins. Praised by both 2Pac & Biggie, Kurupt
kept politics at bay always, moving forward releasing four solo albums between
1998 and 2005.
The songs on "Down and Dirty" were recorded in 2002 and 2003 during "The Row Era". This collection contains 6 previously unreleased tracks including collaborations with Kokane, Danny Boy, and Petey Pablo affirming that Kurupt’s talent and influence is undeniable. Constantly writing and recording, ongoing tours with Tha Dogg Pound and Snoop worldwide, features with fellow bay area baller MacShawn100 and what else? Many artists have had the success of a platinum or gold record in at sometime in their career but just how many have been hailed as the best lyrical rapper in the West? Only one that I can think of... Kurupt "The Kingpin" aka "Young Gotti!"
