Kanye West and 50 Cent To Appear on BET’s "106 & Park" Sept. 11

Kanye West and 50 Cent are set to face off on BET’s "106 & Park" on Tuesday (September 11), when both of their albums will hit US stores.

Even though Kanye West and 50 Cent have engaged in a healthy amount of trash talking over the past couple of weeks - 50 Cent more so - it doesn’t seem like this battle is all about bad blood amongst rappers. Stephen Hill, the executive vice president of BET, says this battle is about something different. "I don’t think it’s a battle, I think it’s a lot of fun," Hill said to the Associated Press. "I think Kanye will tell you he moved his date to 50’s date to draw this type of attention, to create this marketing opportunity." Hill added that, "We’re gonna have fun on Sept. 11, the only place they are going to be together."

Kanye West and 50 Cent have hyped the albums as an epic battle of rap titans : 50 Cent has said he’d retire if Kanye West’s "Graduation" outsells his "Curtis" CD in their first week out. Both rappers are set to perform on the show ’106 & Park’, but it remains to be seen whether they’ll go head to head on stage.

As previously reported, Amazon announced this week that West is out-selling ’Fiddy’ five to one in pre-orders. However, it’s possible that 50 Cent is relying on the youthful demographic, which may not be purchasing music online.

Hip Hop is a culture and it’s music incorporates many musical styles from techno, house, electronica, funk, to r&b, jazz, and soul, etc...People are buyin’ Graduation ’cuz they want somethin’ different not ’cuz anyone wants 50 to quit and Kanye’s album is good music (no pun intended). If you got the loot, cop both albums. One last note, record sales shouldn’t determine if an album is good or not. Just support the artists and the music that you like. It’s all about quality not quantity.

Rap rivals Kanye West and 50 Cent’s much-hyped TV face-off took place on U.S. cable channel BET’s 106th & Park show on Tuesday night.

The rappers, who both released new albums on Tuesday, were expected to take the stage at MTV’s Total Request Live, but West boycotted the music channel’s programs after missing out on winning one of five honours he was nominated for at the Video Music Awards on Sunday night.

Instead, only 50 appeared on the show, leaving BET to claim the duo’s ’Clash of The Titans.’

Both acts performed two songs from their new albums and Jay-Z wowed the studio audience when he joined West on the performance of Big Brother, which is dedicated to the rap mogul.

Jay-Z admitted he was stunned when he heard the song : "To me, it’s the second most important record he (West) made since Jesus Walks... I thought it was brilliantly written, I thought it was his respect about me."

West and 50 Cent then hit the studio together and the latter wasted no time in poking fun at his rival’s Jay-Z’s collaboration, stating, "He brought his big brother with him and his big brother ain’t no competition for me... I’m Muhammad Ali right now."

The hip-hop stars then teamed up to poke fun at country superstar Kenny Chesney, who also released a new album on Tuesday.

50 insisted he’d never heard of the singer, adding, "I’ve heard of Toby Keith."

But the friendly rivalry turned a little sour when 50’s video for I Get Money and Kanye’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing tied for the 106th & Park’s number one spot on the daily countdown.

A disbelieving 50 Cent threw his arms in the air and threatened to throw his microphone away.
