Jay-Z
Real name :
Shawn Corey Carter
Birthday : December 4, 1969

Hometown :
Brooklyn, NY

Jay-z Biography :
Jay-Z was born Shawn Corey Carter, on December 4, 1969 and was raised in the Marcy Projects of Brooklyn, New York. his father left his mother before the young rapper was even a teen. Without a man in the house, he became a self-supportive youth, turning to the streets, where he soon made a name for himself as a fledging rapper. Known as "Jazzy" in his neighborhood, he soon shortened his nickname to Jay-Z, and did all he could to break into the rap game. During his school days, he befriended a young Christopher Wallace, who grew up to be known as the Notorious B.I.G.

In 1990, he appeared on records by his close friend Jaz ("The Originators") and Original Flavor ("Can I Get Open’), and later scored an underground hit single with 1995"s "In My Lifetime".

As a hustler in his rough neighborhood, Jay-Z used his money to finance a career in music and followed his confident instincts by starting his own record label at a time when this practice simply wasn’t done on such an ambitious scale. His label, Roc-A-Fella, took a lot of work from him. He first got a deal with Payday Records for distribution, but he soon realised how terrible that deal was and ran out. He then quickly got a deal with Priority, who published and distributed ‘Reasonable Doubt’. Roc-A-Fella became a marketable brand itself, spawning a lucrative clothing line Roca Wear.

Jay-Z set-up his own Roc-A-Fella imprint in 1996 with entrepreneur Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke. He then quickly got a deal with Priority, who published and distributed “Reasonable Doubt” his debut set, witch went on to achieve gold sales and produced the US number 50 pop single "Ain’t No Nigga"/"Dead Presidents", featuring future rap star Foxy Brown. The follow-up “In My Lifetime, Vol. 1” was released in the aftermath of Notorious B.I.G.’s murder, and debuted at US number 3 in November 1997. Featuring guest appearances from Puff Daddy, Lil’ Kim, Too Short, BLACKstreet and DJ Premier, this sombre and intensely personal album included the stand-out tracks "You Must Love Me" and "Where I’m From".

Although in demand as a guest artist, Jay-Z found the time to write, produce, and direct the semi-autobiographical short Streets Is Watching. The gold-selling soundtrack introduced several of Roc-A-Fella’s rising stars, including Memphis Bleek. With his third album, “Vol. 2 : Hard Knock Life”, Jay-Z answered his critics, creating an album full of guest superstar rappers like DMX, Too Short, and Jermaine Dupri, and the hottest producers of the moment like Swizz Beatz and Timbaland as well as making sure to include a small handful of radio-ready singles.

“Hard Knock Life” became the rapper’s breakthrough album, selling over 300,000 copies in just its first week before going on to sell several hundred thousand more copies thanks to a series of massive hits : "Money Ain’t a Thang," " Can I Get A... ," "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)," and "Cash, Money, Hoes."

In 1999, Jay-Z began launching the careers of the artists on his Roc-a-Fella label  : DJ Clue ?, Beanie Sigel, and Memphis Bleek. He also released his fourth album, “Vol. 3 : Life and Times of S. Carter” , which sold a staggering number of units and generated multiple singles. The Vol 3 was a confident album that found Jay-Z moving away from the somewhat formulaic approach of his previous album. Jay-Z went on tour along with DMX, Method Man & Redman. There were plenty of guest rappers on the ’Hard Knock Life Tour’ and it became the most successful rap tour for years.

Jay-Z made a strong comeback in late 2000 with his next album, “The Dynasty  : Roc la Familia”, which was aided enormously by the phenomenal success of its Neptunes-produced lead single, "I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)." This album’s commercial success once again affirmed Jay-Z’s reign over the rap game. Jay-Z’s remarkable roll continued with 2001’s “The Blueprint”, another stellar work putting him out front as the current leader of the genre...

Jay-Z, by Rapis Crap [2007-08-11 08:29:46]

Jay-Z plagiarizes. He simply does not have an original thought (as most rappers do not). Rap is crap — and is a symptom of the interior rotting of this country.

Can’t you men get real names ? I mean really — what’s wrong with your birth name, instead of rap names like "Spinning Hub Cap" or "Puff Daddy" ? How infantile.

Oh and Jay-Z — while the ignorant people of society make you rich (and the ignorant people in this society is an alarming majority and growing) — you are still an uneducated, big lipped, unoriginal ugly man.

Have a day.

SERIOUISLY, WHY SHOULD ANYONE GIVE A FUCK ABOUT JAY-Z’S COMEBACK ? THIS DUDE IS THE MOST OVERATED HIP HOP ARTIST OF ALL TIME, HIS SONGS ARE ALL ABOUT MONEY, BITCHES AND HOES.THEY ARE NON- INSPIRATIONAL, HIS LYRICS ARE BORROWED, I MEAN I COULD GO ON AND ON, BUT THIS DUDE IS JUST ANOTHER RAPPER TO ME. THERE IS NOTHING UNIQUE OR "GREAT" ABOUT HIM. HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH BEYONCE IS ONLY BASED ON THE FAME AND SUCCESS THEY BOTH HAVE, I DOUBT IF THERE IS AN ACTUALL LOVE COMMITMENT BETWEEN THE TWO. I AM NOT TYRING TO SOUND LIKE AN ASS OR ANYTHING BUT IT IS THE FACT. HE BETTER STAYS RETIRED RATHER THAN COMING OUT WITH THE WACKEST ALBUM OF HIS WHOLE CAREER AND MAKING A FOOL OF HIM SELF.

Jay-Z and Nas they are the who can make a big coloboration in hip-hop industry cuz they are big brainz niggaz

> Jay-Z, by ME [2006-07-11 07:37:51]

Fuck that !!! Nas albums are 10 times greater than Jay-Z’s. Reasonable doubt is shit. i’d rather listen to " all eyze on me" or " ready to die" . than reasonable doubt.

> Jay-Z, by [2006-07-03 12:06:27]

Everyone who’s dissin Jay-Z should listen to Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint. Reasonable Doubt especially, is one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever and apart from Illmatic, most of Nas’ albums really can’t compare (no offence to Nas though). I agree that a lot of his new stuff isn’t up to scratch but it’s still better than stuff put out by 50 Cent, Ja Rule etc.

Jay z you heard it on on makaveli tupac singing that,Nas is the ring leader of eastcoast rappers even when biggie was alive.what else ?anyways, nice decision you did by begging God mercy to reunite with God son.You now know that Nas is real soldier and indeed a God son becos upon all the monies (bribes)you and defjam gave to hot97 and some of medias just to keep on playing and repeating your recoards to keep you on top of every rapper in NY is useless cus Nas has won the battle with his lyrics(evil empire funded by a bunch of evil empires)It was good you partnered with Nas he will teach you how to be real and i thought you r in Dame’s lil project ?ohhh ok... you shit on Dame and now Cam trying to degrade you.LOL ya’ll gotta problems.

First of all, I was just looking for lyrics to girls x 3 because I wanted to find out what he said in spanish and this is whatpopped up from my search. So you know, since I fuck with HOV I figured I would look at the site for a minute just to check it out. But then, I see these comments from people who obviously haven’t been paying attention to the rap game for the past ten years. I’m not even going to call these people haters beacuse then, I would be hating, and hating just isnt in my blood. I tried it once or twice and got real sick so now I’m thinkin I must be allergic to hating. But anyway, I’m not going to get into the whole Pac and B.I.G thing because in my opi, they were two different caliber of artists. To me B.I.G. is the greatest to ever do this shit we call rap. His lyricism is untouchable. Pac was a poet who was a very, very talented artist as well. I mean, shit, you know you’re talented when you got albums droppin’ after you’re dead and sellin’ more than artists who do concerts and have major label promotion behind them. (Where is Chingy and J-Kwon agian ?) Anyway, B.I.G birthed Jay and come on, when you’re fed the game you gotta shit the game. Jay definitely, no ,DEFINITELY, held down the crown after Big’s passing. The spot was up for grabs and Jay set up shop and put a padlock on the game until he gracefully bowed out. NO ONE could fuck with HOVA DA GOD while he blessed mics and stages for you peons. President Carter retired because HE wanted to. Not because someone ended his career (i.e. 50 vs. Ja) ! I cannot bring myself to understand how anyone who is a fan of rap/hip’hop music doesn’t rspect how Jigga blessed the game and alot of your favorite rappers. It’s not too many niggas in the game who don’t fuck with him. First of all, he came from the p.j’s, Marcy of course, made something outta nothing then flipped that into legal paper. After trying to shop a independant record label to majors and not finding what he needed, said fuck it, and dropped a jewel that is arguably the best debut album from any solo artist in the game. I mean I know about Get rich and Illmatic but Reasonable helped shape waht the game is today. That shit could have dropped last week and went platinum. Same as Ready or 2Pacalyse ! Then this man ran the game. With the exception of B.P. 2 and Vol. 1 name a Jay album you can’t bump front to back. AND he’s got the sickest intros in the game ; see Reasonable ;Vol.1 ;Vol.3 ;The Dynasty ! Went through 3 beefs and came out on top in all of em then smack niggaz in the mouth with the Black album and just as quick, closed the curtain on yall bitches. The best ending to a career besides my man Jerome Bettis comin back to the hometown (NBA CHAMPS hopefully) and killing Seattle and then putting the ball down. Just imagine if Mike woulda stayed sittin down after the 98 finals then picture the black album. These niggaz is mad because they pulled some slick shit behind Mr. Carter’s back while he was on some island somewhere sippin margaritas with B and couldnt hold down the presidential throne so they pissed thier pants, tucked their tail between their legs, went and got some pink slippers and a pink truck, and now they wanna talk shit. These niggaz need to remember where they got they ONLY plati album from. If it wasnt for President Carter, some of these wack ass niggas wouls still be saying oh boy on a horse and carriage somewhere in Harlem gettin victimized talkin to Mase to find out when service starts. Wayne, who is the hottest on the streets right now know who’s been runnin this shit. T.I.P who’s currently runnin the game know who’s been runnin this shit. Basically, top 10 ever goes like this’ 10.Busta Rhymes, 9.Big Daddy Kane, 8.Eminem, 7/6. Wayne/T.I.P., 5.Rakim, 4. Nas, 3. HOVA DA GOD, 2. Pac, and the greatest lyricists ever to do this shit we call rap is (drumroll, please)First one’s first he POPPA freaks all the honeys, dummies, playboy bunnies, yall know da rest !

first and formost jay-z is my favorite rapper but i think in the greatest it goes in dis order biggie,jay-z,tupac,nas. da reason y i think jay and bigge come before tupac and nas is cause u gotta be a sick nigga to jus get on da mic and freestyle ur whole album. don’t get me wrong tupac is da illest dere will eva be wit a pen but jus freestylin all ur shit is ill. about da nas and jay-z battle da takeover was sweet and in my opinion nas killed jay wit ether but jay redeemed himself wit superugly. superugly won’t as sweet as ether but nas wrote dat shit and probably had to think. jay-z responded in a couple of days wit superugly which was fire plus jay-z is way more consistent den nas but luv to all dem. and by da way FUCK CAM’RON AND ALL HIS FANS. FUCKIN DISNEY STILLIN GIMICK BITCH

ROCAFELLA YALL !!!!!!!!!!!!

> Jay-Z, by mowy [2006-04-03 00:49:09]

Jay and Nas beef was all about selling records however I agree Nas is on a different level compared to Jay Z.

Then again how can you compare them Nas es lyrical ability is incredable whilst Jay dont even write his shit down he just spits.

> Jay-Z, by [2006-03-28 05:01:49]

Jay-Z is a very talented rapper I give that. But the shit he pulls off sometimes, pure GARBAGE. He stole mad beats and rhymes from Biggie, like nigga c’mon make your own music, and that respect to Biggie is crap, he just can’t think of his own material. AND CLEARLY he lost to the battle against Nas, Nas is more talented and knowledgable than him. But Hova apologized to him in the concert why ? Cause he knows he can’t deal with Nas, a supreme rapper whom he cannot compete with. Nas first than Jay-Z. All I Say.

All you who have dissed the man also took the trouble to visit his biography page. Why ? Because you wanted to know about the man, because secretly you respect the man. He’s one of the originals - timeless - his early albums are some of the best hiphop has on offer - today or yester-year. And you know it ! 50 cent, yeh he’s got a few tunes out there, but will we still be talking about him in 10 years. Nah, doubt it. Jay-Z is a class act, he came up the hard way, he’s self made for gods sake ! What more do you want class tunes from a self made man from the street. 50 cent is eminem’s little project, I doubt we would have heard of him otherwise. Get Rich or Dye Trying - Yep ! Massarce ? S**t ! eminem, the game, 50 cent all respect "Reasonable Doubt" and Jay-Z. Okay they’ve had there moments, but at the end of a hard day spitting out rythmes to please the fans - when it comes to the crunch they’d all hold their respective hats off to the man himself ! I guarantee it !
