Jay-Z and Nas End Beef onstage
Nas and Jay-Z were involved in one of the biggest battles in hip-hop history in 2001. The long-running feud between Jay-Z and Nas was squashed on Thursday night (October 27) during Jay-Z’s Power 105.1 Power House concert at New Jersey’s Continental Airlines Arena.
In the build up to the concert, Jay-Z promised surprise guest performances and originally declared the show was an "I Declare War" show saying "It’s bigger than ’I declare war.’ It’s like the muthaf**kin’ president presenting the United Nations." in the build-up to the show. However, no-one was "aired out" during the three hour show. Instead, Jay-Z and friends used the show as an opportunity to celebrate unity an ending unnecessary beef.
"This is for hip-hop," Jay-Z said . "We love y’all!"
During the show, Jay-Z teased the crowd about his guests before shouting "Let’s go Esco!" and Nas joining him onstage, with Nas greeted by a deafening applause from the crowd. The two Kings of New York then performed Jay-Z’s "Dead Presidents" together. Nas told the audience, "We (are) savin’ the East Coast with your help."
The two men connecting
for the historic performance may just be the tip of the iceberg, as Nas is a
free agent and he may be interested in joining the Def Jam roster. Kanye West
also performed a 15 minute set, entering the stage from below, peroforming tracks
"Touch the Sky," "Heard Em Say" and "Drive Slow"
with Paul Wall from his "Late Registration" album. West also joined
Jigga onstage with Diddy and Nas at the end of the show to perform Jay-Z’s
"Encore." Memphis Bleek, T.I., Young Jeezy, Akon, Boyz N Da Hood,
Teairra Mari, Ne-Yo and The Lox also made appearances.
