Review :
J Dilla’s final album "The Shining," which was nearly completed before
the hip-hop producer’s untimely death on February 10, will be released on August
22 via BBE.
The album features guest appearances from Busta Rhymes, Common, Pharoahe Monch, and Madlib among others. "The Shining" was executively produced by Karriem Riggins, long-time friend and collaborator of J Dilla, a.k.a. Jay Dee. "All the artists that contributed to this project Dilla considered family," says Riggins. "And when the world hears it, they will see that the love bleeds through the music."
Founding Slum Village member J Dilla has produced tracks for the likes of Common, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Janet Jackson and Macy Gray. Before he died he also completed production for Madlib, Busta Rhymes, Ghostface Killah, Truth Hurts and MF Doom.
A tribute DVD produced by Brian "B. Kyle" Atkins of Okayplayer Films, will be offered with the album and another album entitled "Jay Love Japan (Operation Unknown)" is planned for release later this year.
