Dilla (Jay Dee)
Album: Dillanthology
Release Date: 3/31/2009
review:
Since his 2006 death, James Yancey’s influence has grown exponentially. Dillanthology
plucks from the late-90s, when he grabbed the baton from his Tribe Called Quest
mentors and created a soulful, bumpy aesthetic. He never forged a definitive
partnership, scattering his production genius to the wind, making this staggering
set all the more vital.
The first in a series of planned albums focusing on different aspects of the legendary producer’s career. In the coming months, look for separate volumes for both his remix work and production on his own projects.
