INDIE CORNER :
Interview with gritsandeggs.com

by : Lennox Murdock

Alright thank you all for tuning in to Hiphopgalaxy.com, This week in the indie corner I will be doing an interview with a young businessman by the name of Torre Crockett he host a website by the name gritsandeggs.com.

This site is catered to indie artist from the south this is a place where these Indie artist have no competition from major artist, but don’t think for a moment that this site will only feature you if you are from the south they have a column every month for artist outside the south. This guy here is doing a real service to the underground community so continue to read this article as we find out more about Torre, Gritsandeggs.com, the Florida scene and the South.

LENNOX : So, you are the founder of gritsandeggs.com. First off tell me about your website.

gritsandeggspres : Its a group of us, 7 actual partners in the company, I’m the President of the company and basically handle all aspects of the site, Our site is for Southern Underground Artist, we try to provide a stage for their music, interviews, videos, album reviews, like mainstream artist get on many other sites

gritsandeggspres : Many underground cats have quality music but don’t have the resources to promote themselves so we felt as music lovers we could change that in our own way

LENNOX : ok cool so you are trying to help these cats out here that are serious about hip hop but don’t have a means to promote themselves that’s a very noble gesture. How long have you been at this ?

gritsandeggspres : FEBRUARY 2005, and we running like Maurice Green so we are only a few months, but its been a lot of learning and grinding.

LENNOX : I feel you on that but, grinding is apart of the game. So how many artist does your site feature to date

gritsandeggspres : 24 with artist pages, which include bios, pics, and contact info, with at least 12 more coming soon as of right now, but music wise there are easily 50 different artist with their music playing in the music player. Being that this is the underground we deal wit a lot of cats just jumping off into the game, so bios and what not are still being developed by them.

LENNOX : Ok then, it seems as though you guys have made real home that these artist can come to a really do big things that’s cool.

LENNOX : so tell me why the south ? I mean are you are only featuring artist from the south but why not all over the world.

gritsandeggspres : Good question but I got a good answer, its home, born and raised in FL, every partner in the company is from right here in FL, grew up on southern music, southern food, and everything else southern but, we have a section called stepping out where we feature artist from outside of the south, Call it an underlying hatred of not being respected musically for along time but growing up I never saw my favourite rappers on TV, why, cause the mainstream wasn’t trying to hear all that.

LENNOX : Say word ! The south is popping right now any way. So I see that everyone in your company is from Florida can you give the world a small insight on the underground scene there.

gritsandeggspres : The Underground Scene in FL is real rough maybe, radio aint putting down for cats down here really, and the population don’t really show love until cats almost already have a name, but one thing bout it, if you make it in FL, you gone make it, cause the fans aint bumping no garbage its so many cats down here doing they thing though, its only a mater of time.

LENNOX : Like who ?

gritsandeggspres : BloodRaw who is signed to Young Jeezy CTE Label, Grandaddy Souf, Sauve Smooth, Wes Fif, Treal, Young Cash, Rated R, Tampa Tony, Big Bud, Strangers, Gutta Boyz, Plies who is signed to Slip N Slide,T-Pain who is signed to Jive. I can go on for days

LENNOX : Damn that’s a lot of folks

gritsandeggspres : (yep) TJ Chapman up in Tallahasee, FL, he is not a rapper but he host one of the biggest record pool meetings in the south and also Julia Beverly of Ozone Magazine, they are both people that are helping push FL hip hop to what it is about to become.

LENNOX : I see you mentioned TJ who host TJs DJs do you work with him because I know that his record pool is off the chain and i think he will be one of the people to put yall on the map and also Ozone magazine I have picked that Magazine up and it is pretty good and it has some good articles that’s where I was first introduced to TJ

gritsandeggspres : I know of him and of his site, but we don’t know him personally, big ups to his work though, people will know bout him soon cause he a grinder, doing his thing big time for the south

gritsandeggspres : back where we were talking bout the artist in FL

LENNOX : ok

gritsandeggspres : T-Pain - "I’m Sprung" coming to a tv near you

LENNOX : alright, remember that date and name folks, ok since we were talking about artist from florida people usually think of Luke when they hear Florida but you guys dont just do that booty bass music though it is real diverse down there

LENNOX : All though i must add that that is yall invention though and many props to yall for that cause it keeps the party jumping and girls dancing.

gritsandeggspres : fa sho, its like getting type casted for a movie, people hear an artist is from FL, they think automatic booty music, its lots of artist down here with a story to tell, more than the norm, that trap music that Jeezy and TI coming wit, that the new FL in my eyes, its real gutta down here, dope game real major, and its got to come out in the music, ass and titties gone remain but the dope game and the struggle gotta get they shine too, thats just life and the music is a representation of that

LENNOX : I feel that cause the dope game is real tough down there that’s where scarface was based so you know its worse now in 2005.

gritsandeggspres : lol, fa sho

LENNOX : But let me ask you. How have Luke and JAM Pony Express and those other older cats help shape FLORIDA

gritsandeggspres : Oh shit, I see you up on your shit, JPE Jam Pony Express, they my dj srew, they my dj clue and any of these over cats that doing they thing now, in FL JPE shaped the whole music scene, cats doing they thing back in the day, as for Luke his accomplishments speak for themselves, every time you copped a cd and see that parental advisory image on the cd cover, lol, that’s cause of LUKE 2 LIVE CREW, supreme court, got the US SUPREME court listening to the cd, and reviewing its content, it don’t get no bigger than that

LENNOX : really you guys down bottom are pioneers in this music thing and that’s FOR REAL

LENNOX : how did SLIP-N-SLIDE change things

gritsandeggspres : slip n slide to me just legitimized the art form down here, Trick is major down here, he is the slip n slide front man, and his subject matter is very diverse people see videos and think one thing

LENNOX : and whats that ?

gritsandeggspres : they believe an artist is one way, we really videos and singles are usually chosen by what the marketing is look like, but its the albums that reveal the truth of an artist, they believe an artist is one way, we really videos and singles are usually chosen by what the marketing is look like. Think about it bravehearts and lil jon callabo cause that crunk shit hott right

LENNOX : seen.

gritsandeggspres : but everyone know that bravehearts aint crunk artist

LENNOX : true that and actually that didn’t work to well either

gritsandeggspres : so when you see a southern artist lots of people get mistaken cause they don’t get the whole album

LENNOX : seen.

gritsandeggspres : Pastor Troy is deep, Trick is Deep, UGK, Eightball and MJG, all those niggas deep, talking bout real shit that won’t be on no video or radio

gritsandeggspres : to real for video or radio

LENNOX : right they are to real for tv cause Trick got some hard ass shit

gritsandeggspres : "BASED ON A TRUE STORY" anybody reading this article add it to your music library if you aint got it

LENNOX : they better or we gone call Trick and them

gritsandeggspres : HA HA

LENNOX : just kidding, but yea you all should go back and pick that up if you didn’t get it then and if u did and its scratched now go get a new one as a matter of fact go out and buy the album just for G.P.

LENNOX : being from the south myself but having roots up north I learned to rap by listening to JAY Z and them but Trick helped me develop that southern- ness to come out of my voice

LENNOX : OH yea you guys down there are unique also cause you guys got so many Caribbean artist that rap and and that dance hall element. Anyone hear of Don Yute

gritsandeggspres : yea another slip n slide cat

gritsandeggspres : slip n slide is coming, PLIES !!!! finna do his thing, you can checkout some of his mixtape tracks on our site

LENNOX : I know yall got haitians and cubans also, speaking of Cubans how is Pitbull change the Scene ?

gritsandeggspres : that cat doing his thing fa sho, its hard for cats who
aint black to get into this, but when they make it, they hit big, feel me, Eminem, Pitbull, now you got Bad Boy Latino, so he bout to help his people get they bread right too, its only fair

gritsandeggspres : huge market waiting to be tapped

LENNOX : I see I see

gritsandeggspres : and his music is legit, he aint on no corney shit, dude can rap

LENNOX : I know

gritsandeggspres : so its all good and much success to him, Lil Jon is a visionary and gave that cat his shot

LENNOX : ok so back to you cause you are giving cats a shot to

LENNOX : Most casts can’t afford a website and you give them a chance to get a least a page some where that is devoted to them

gritsandeggspres : yea, that’s what we do for them, also we add their music to the music player, so you can go from being local in TX, AL, MS, GA or where ever else to International with a little grind and working with us after that, your product must speak for you, if you hott then you hott, if you not then get back in the lab, kitchen, whatever you call your studio and get back to work

LENNOX : fa sho so how can artist link up with you guys is there a fee or something ?

gritsandeggspres : at this point in time there is no fee, and if you join now there wont be a fee, we are building a clientele, clientele is increasing fast, the site is hott, so its getting to a point where we are providing a great outlet for cats, and its become more time consuming, so changes will be coming eventually

LENNOX : ok all you Underground cats join up now if you don’t have any money cause these cats are nice enough to start out for free to help you all so show some support

gritsandeggspres : thats right, we understand the grind, so be bout your business and join ASAP, HA HA

LENNOX : right you guys have yall thing down

LENNOX : hey I really wanna think you guys for what yall are doing

gritsandeggspres : fa sho, its a business and we look like we arein a niche that hasn’t be done before, the underground has been here, but on thereal we offer a site of only undergroundartists, no competing for space with the major artist

gritsandeggspres : and its all driven by the need for need music in the industry as well as the fact the music is good
