Gnarls Barkley prepping second album
Gnarls Barkley members Cee-Lo Green and Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton are beginning to work on material for a follow-up to their surprise debut hit, St. Elsewhere. According to MTV.com, Burton said, "We’ve started to throw some ideas around, and we’ve started on some rough demo stuff...it’s still a little ways away. But we want to make the record sooner rather than later — just go in there and continue what we’re doing." Green told us that Gnarls Barkley has become a more important project than either he or Burton first imagined : "It wasn’t that initially. We thought it was cool, and we don’t think that we’re the only cool people out there, so we thought other cool people would get into it. But now, with what it’s become, it’s like, I’d like to see what we could do if we really, really focused."
Burton said that the duo will approach their next record "the same way we did before — we’re going to do it at our pace and see what happens," adding, "If we don’t love it the way we loved this one, well, then we won’t do it."
St. Elsewhere is approaching the platinum mark in sales, fueled by the album’s smash single, "Crazy." The CD’s latest single is called "Gone Daddy Gone."
Meanwhile, Burton
is also working on a new project with Sparklehorse’s Mark Linkous, while Green
has several records on the way, including a new Goodie Mob disc, a hits collection
and a collaboration called Happy Hour.
