In September 2007, Eminem called into New York radio station Hot 97 during a 50 Cent interview and said he is "in limbo" and "debating" about when and if he would release another album. He said, "I’m always working — I’m always in the studio. It feels good right now, the energy of the label. For a while, I didn’t want to go back to the studio ... I went through some personal things. I’m coming out of those personal things [and] it feels good." And though he jokingly said he’d release the new CD "tomorrow", there is no official release date, according to Interscope.

Last month, The announcement was made on Eminem’s satellite radio station, Shade 45, during the on-air "release party" for his new book, The Way I Am. "There are a lot of fake album titles floating out there – a lot of bullshit titles," he said. "The real title of my album that’s coming out is ... Relapse." He also played a cut from the album, called I ’m Having a Relapse. "Guess who’s back ?" it begins, with Slim Shady’s familiar vim.

Over the last few months, the project was rumored to have been titled both King Mathers and Empack. Also at the soiree were 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, L-L Cool J and The Alchemist.

Relapse will be the rapper’s first release since 2005’s not-so-aptly named greatest hits compilation, Curtain Call. Eminem’s last original album was Encore, in 2004.

Lyrical acrobat Slim Shady returns after a five-year absence with his fifth major label release, continuing to strike the perfect balance between brooding insight and absolute silliness on 2009’s RELAPSE. Opening single "Crack a Bottle" reunites Detroit’s maddest rapper with his superstar mentor (Dr. Dre) and protege (50 Cent) on a fittingly funky tour de force.
