Eminem Launches New Lawsuit Against Apple
Eminem’s music publisher has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Apple Inc. accusing the iPod creator of violating his copyrights by allowing unauthorised downloads of his music onto the MP3 players.
The Detroit News is reporting that Eminem’s publishing company Eight Mile Style and Martin Affiliated filed a lawsuit at the U.S. District Court in Detroit yesterday (July 30) claiming that despite paying Universal revenue from any Eminem track downloaded through iTunes, Apple has never been given permission by the rapper’s publishing company to sell his music in a digital format.
This lawsuit has the potential to cause some serious upsets in the music industry as record labels and publishers battle over who actually owns the copyrights to the lyrics and music with regards to CD sales and digital downloads.
Eminem has demanded that Apple remove all of his music from its iTunes store, however, Apple has failed to comply with the request. "Eight Mile and Martin have demanded that Apple cease and desist its reproduction and distribution and Apple has refused," the complaint states.
This isn’t the first run
in between these two parties. Eminem and Eight Mile Style sued Apple for $10
million in 2004 over the company’s using his hit "Lose Yourself"
in their global advertisement campaign for iTunes in 2003. The case was settled
out of court.

"Apple have never been given permission ... " "Apple have failed to comply ... " Geez, I’d expect a professional, or even a semi-professional, website to match verb case with a noun, but I guess that’s too much to ask.
