Roxbury native EDO.G (Edward Anderson) and Da Bulldogs broke into the international hip-hop arena in 1991 with the release of their debut album "Life Of A Kid In The Ghetto," on the now defunct PWL America/Mercury Records label. Several successful singles were released from this first album, including the party anthem "I Got To Have It," which went to #1 on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles Chart and was #1 on the YO ! MTV RAPS countdown. Sales were estimated at over 470,000 units for this first album. During a two year time span between 1991-1992, EDO.G received 3 awards at the annual Boston Music Awards. By 1999 EDO.G earned 2 of the Boston Music Award’s most prestigious titles four times over ; Best Rap Album and Best Outstanding Act. EDO.G’s second album, "Roxbury 02119," was produced by Diamond D of NYC’s famous Diggin In The Crates crew and Joe Mansfield (co-owner of Traffic Entertainment). EDO.G independently released a six-song EP in 1996, with help from the Vinyl Reanimators. The first single off of the EP, "Dedicated," went to the Top 10 on the Gavin Rap charts, and was the number 2 most-added single in August and September on both the Gavin and CMJ Beat Box charts in 1996.
Meanwhile, EDO.G kept himself busy with various cameo and compilation appearances, as well as production work for Da Bulldogs and other regional talent. In 1998 EDO.G appeared on the compilation "Beats and Lyrics 2," on Industry/ Priority Records. He contributed three powerful songs to this album ; I Feel You (the compilation’s lead single), Hot Ish (featuring Dres), and Bring Truth to the Light. In addition, he did a collaboration with DJ Spinna on the "Super Rappin" compilation, on the German based Groove Attack label and he also had a track on the Industry Records compilation Process Of Elimination.
After appearing in several compilation series, EDO.G thurst himself into the limelight again by releasing his 5th album, The Truth Hurts, which featured contributions from DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Guru, Black Thought, and Heiroglyphics members Tajai & Casual, in 2001.
EDO.G is about to claim the spotlight once yet again. His fourth full-length album, My Own Worst Enemy drops this fall. The album reminds us of the Golden Age of hip-hop when albums were good in their entirety and free of gimmicks and fluff. My Own Worst Enemy consists of 10 solid, high-quality songs, 7 of them produced by the legendary Pete Rock. Guest artists include Pete Rock, Diamond D, Masta Ace, Krumb Snatcha, and Jaysaun.
