New Line Cinema has signed Dr Dre to a multiyear feature producing deal through his newly minted Crucial Films production company. Dre worked with New Line in the past, scoring films including "Set It Off".
Dre, who will co-produce with longtime collaborator Phillip Atwell, plans to focus first on developing dark comedies for the studio before moving into other areas, such as horror. He’ll be heavily involved in the music side of such projects.
Dre has scored various films in the past few years. He has also composed music for "A Man Apart," "The Wash," "Bad Boys II," and "Set It Off."
"Everything Dre has worked on becomes a hit, and one of the reasons for that is he never put his name on anything he doesn’t really believe in," explained New Line producer Toby Emmerich.
In other news, Aftermath artist Bishop Lamont is close to finish his album entitled The Reformation (half-produced by Dr Dre) and also worked closely with the doctor on his highly anticiped album "Detox" that might be released this year.
