Review:
Diddy is set to return with his first album in over five years, when Press Play
hits shelves October 3. The album will supposedly be straight R&B and will
include vocal spots from the likes of Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blidge, Ciara,
Brandy and Nicole Scherzinger (aka the only member of the Pussycat Dolls you
could pick out of a lineup.) The real news though, is that there will not feature
a single sample. "After you press play, it’s gonna make or break you in
this game," the entrepreneurial hip-hop artist/producer told MTV News.
"That’s where I’m at. We about to press play on October 3, and hopefully
I can make people feel good."
Diddy has been working on the album for a year-and-a-half with collaborators including Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Mary J. Blige, Brandy, Pharoahe Monch, Just Blaze, Will.I.Am and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas and Havoc from Mobb Deep. The choice for the disc’s first single is a toss-up at the moment between "Touch Me" (featuring Christina Aguilera) and "Come To Me" (with Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger). The first track leaked from the album is "Get Off," which features Diddy talking about dancing on street corners and in his basement. "It really captures the energy of the movement," says Diddy of the song. "Being from Harlem, when we dance, we call it ’getting off.’"
