Def Jam stands behind Nas for his "Nigger" Album
There has been a lot of controversy since Nas announced during a recent performance that his next album due out for December, 11 2007 will be entitled Nigger.
MTV met with Def Jam Chairman at the American Gangster premiere in NYC and reports that he killed all the recent rumors by saying that his record label stands behind Nas artistic choices and fully support him with his next album title.
Here is what Antonio L.A. Reid, Chairman of the Def Jam Music Group has to say about it: "We support everything our artists do, everything!" he added. "We stand firmly behind and beside our artists with pride and with pleasure. Anything Nas wants to do, I completely stand beside him. Nas is prolific, he’s prophetic, he’s a genius, an amazing artist of respect. So, while I’m not sure exactly all that [the title] entails, I know it’s smart, so I stand behind him. That’s real."
Common and Method Man also supported Nas choice for his next album, both underlining that Nas has also been a smart MC and that he’s always made real statements throughout his music.
Nas Greatest Hits album will be in stores on November 6 and you can check 2 previously unreleased tracks called Less than an hour (feat Cee-Lo) and Surviving The Times in our Audio Section.
Nas will also be featured on Jay-Z album American Gangster coming out on the same day (Nov, 6) on a track called Success and here is what he has to offer about this collaboration with his former enemy:
"The record with Jay, that’s a crazy joint," he said. "Homeboy is laser-sharp with his sh—. And he’s got a crazy album. I’m really proud of him. It made me proud. Yeah, I’m on the joint. I’m on there."
