DJ Premier, Green Lantern Pick Scion’s ’Next Emcee’

The Scion car company recently revealed that Kansas City rapper Reach won its’ NextUp emcee competition. The company received some 1,700 song submissions last July, from rappers across the country.

Reach’s “Comin’ For You” stood out because of it’s “refreshing groove and positive vibes”, according to Scion sources. Judges for the competition included DJ Green Lantern, DJ Premier, and A&R/DJ Sean Cane.

Reach received $5,000 in prize money, the opportunity to perform at Scion events, and a video produced via Scion funds. Last years’ winner, Brooklyn rapper Junk Science, released an EP as well as a video, through Scion’s A/V music project.

Scion also sponsors a Free Up Your Mix DJ contest and the xPress Fest filmmaker competition. In a constantly changing music industry, these competitions seek to give voice to an otherwise unheard population of artists. For more information visit www.scion.com.
