BLING : Consequences and Repercussions

Bling : Consequences and Repercussions tackle the issues behind Hip Hop’s obsession with diamonds and the continued illegal diamond trade in Africa. Kanye West’s music video, Diamonds from Sierra Leone, introduced the topic of conflict diamonds to the urban communities. Bling looks to further educate the Hip Hop generation about the murder and carnage caused by the world’s greed for diamonds.
“I think Hip Hop is obsessed with diamonds, they can’t go to the stage without diamonds.” -Jeweler David Shimanov, Kinetics of New York
Bling has been under development for two years before shooting began in New York City and Miami during the summer of 2005. Interviewees include David Shimanov, renowned jeweler whose A-List clientele includes Hip Hops most prominent rappers – 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, Fabolous and Jewelz Santana, to name a few.

In order to provide a first hand perspective on the struggles in Africa, Bling interviews Greg Campbell, author of Blood Diamonds : Tracing the Deadly Path of the World’s Most Precious Stone.

“The point of the operation was just as simple as it sounds the rebels were instructed to invade the capitol and kill everything in sight.”-Greg Campbell

Narrated by Hip Hop Legend Chuck D, Bling : Consequences and Repercussions is a documentary short form and will be released as a feature length documentary in the Fall of 2006.
